Soh it is out of sight… A Senegalese man biking in Rotterdam, how will that end… Dr. Soh is a great example for me; an inspiring leader and humble follower of Jesus. And of course a medical doctor 🙂 He is in the Netherlands for an International Congress of Christian Physicians (ICMDA). Crossing the Erasmus Bridge by bike is an experience that can’t be missed while in town.

SAMSUNGDr. Soh might actually be a good Dutchman. His preferred drink is milk; no surprise if you come from a shepherd tribe, he likes to be on time and – apparently bikes very well! I follow him puffing (it isn’t east if you havn’t cycled for over two years…) and we arrive safely at the conference center.

It is an inspiring conference. Some 900 doctors from all over the world have come and discuss topics around the theme of faith and health care. For dr. Soh it is specifically encouraging to meet doctors with the same kind of vocation as his. He is not alone! Even though he works in a remote area in northern Senegal – where the nearest hospital and the nearest church are more than an hour away – he is not alone. He is now connected with doctors who are called by God to the same kind of situation.

Dr. Soh had a comfortable life as a doctor in Libya. Until he felt the call to return to Senegal, and returned to the area where his tribe lives. Far from the comforts of the big city, in an area with little medical care. In his life and work the love of Jesus becomes visible in a village where is the biggest cattle market of West Africa is held every weekend.

I work with dr. Soh on the founding of a Christian Medical & Dental Association in Senegal. Connecting Christian medical workers and initiatives is essential in our context. We need each other to keep going. Dr. Soh and I got new energy during the conference in the Netherlands. We pray that many of our colleagues will be as inspired by the upcoming meeting in Senegal!

Coming to the Netherlands was made possible by a grant from the ICMDA. Not all costs were thus covered. If you want to contribute to the further costs that we had (such as plane tickets) or if you’d like to sponsor the work of dr. Soh, you can make a bank transfer to Cama IBAN: NL76 ABNA 0484 6740 48 BIC: ABNANL2A, marked KIEVIET dr.SOH or contact us for other options.
