What motivates me – Jan

I’m not very familiar with poetry, but when I read the poem Spiritual by Remco Campert, a Dutch author, a few years ago, it touched me. I don’t know how he meant it, but for me it describes how I experience the calling of God. It is a deep inner conviction. The road might be hard, but the importance of the work is greater than the possible hardship that is awaiting us. God calls us for a good work, and good work may also cost me something.

I will go
Oh with pleasure will I go
With deep joy and sound of trumpets
I will go

When you call I will go
My work, my food and my hands
I will leave
When you call I will go

When you call in the morning
In the afternoon, in the evening
In my dreams, in my watch
When you call I will go

I will go
Even if they break my legs
Even if I have to go crippled
Angels will then put
wings on my wagon

I will go
