A delicious and easy recipe from my family on Flakkee appears to be well suited to Africa, where most people have no oven.
2 cups (500g) flour
1 cup (250g) caster sugar
1 bag vanilla sugar
a pinch of salt
1 cup (250g) butter
1 egg
1.5 tbsp syrup (special shipment from Holland) or local honey (with small bits of bee!)
2 teaspoons cinnamon
You can also take half of everything (editors note: or twice as much). Roll dough out, cut in shapes, and bake in a dry frying pan for a few minutes. It’s a bit of work, but a fun holiday activity for Maria and her friends.
